Following the success of “Heaven is for Real,” Sony Pictures is gearing up its next Christian-focused drama, tapping Jennifer Garner to star in “Miracles From Heaven.”
Sony has released several successful faith-based films for mainstream audiences; this one will be released through TriStar Pictures.
Patricia Riggen is directing with “Heaven is For Real” producers Joe Roth, Devon Franklin and T.D. Jakes producing. Riggen previously directed “Under the Same Moon” and telefilm “Lemonade Mouth.”
Based on the novel by Christy Beam, the story follows a young girl who is suffering from a rare digestive disorder and finds herself miraculously cured after surviving a terrible accident.
Randy Brown is penning the script. Production begins this summer.
“Heaven is for Real” was a hit for Sony, taking in more than $100 million worldwide, becoming one of the biggest faith-based hits of all time. It was one of the top grossers on the studio’s slate last year.
Garner is about to begin production on the Relativity pic “Nine Lives” opposite Kevin Spacey. She is repped by Management 360, WME and attorneys Jason Sloane and Harris Hartman.
