May 21, 2015 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner: Ben Affleck and I Treat Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel “Like Real Kids” Articles

There is no spoiling in this household! Celebrity supermom Jennifer Garner told Us Weekly on Monday, May 18, that she and Ben Affleck try to raise their little ones — Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3 — “like real kids.”

“We’re so involved,” Garner, 42, told Us at the launch of her new kids’ crafts line We Made It in Santa Monica, Calif. “I just took a year and a half off of work and I’ve been home. You treat them like real kids. They have boundaries and they have rules and they throw fits.”

In fact, they’re daily occurrences. “Yesterday, we were at a bike store getting their bikes serviced and getting new helmets that fit and… my littlest one [Samuel] saw something he wanted. I had just said, ‘We’re not buying anything,’ and he threw a fit,” she recalled. “The people at the store said to me, ‘Please let us just give this to you’ because he was so unhappy. And I said, ‘I’m sorry that he’s throwing a fit in your store and you’re so sweet to want to give this to him. And thank you for asking me first. But he’s going to have to throw a fit.’ I said no. No is no.”

Leave it to Violet and Seraphina to know about the no. “I said to my girls, ‘What do I mean when I say no?'” Garner told Us. “And they were like, ‘She really means no!’ So you just have to do it. It’s not pretty. I don’t think that I’m always the best at it but I try my best to be consistent and for them to know what they can expect from me.”

Jen and Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores launch WE MADE IT BY JENNIFER GARNER on May 18 in Santa Monica.

May 18, 2015 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner to Launch Children’s Craft Line Exclusively at Jo-Ann Articles

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, the leading fabric and craft specialty retailer in America, has announced an exclusive partnership with Jennifer Garner on a new line of creative kits and projects for active kids. We Made It by Jennifer Garner will be available exclusively at Jo-Ann stores and beginning in June.

In celebration of the launch, Jo-Ann is proud to support Save the Children with a $75,000 donation for programs helping children in need in the U.S. As Artist Ambassador and trustee, Garner advocates for Save the Children’s early education programs with the goal of ensuring that every child in America has access to quality education from cradle to cap and gown.

“As a mom and children’s advocate, I believe it’s very important we encourage children to express themselves and explore their imaginations,” said Jennifer Garner. “The We Made It line makes it easy and fun for families to form lasting memories together while developing their children’s creativity and intellectual abilities. I am excited to share We Made It with families and have a portion of the proceeds benefit Save the Children, a charity that is so important to me.”

We Made It by Jennifer Garner is a collection of more than 100 creative kits and projects designed to promote imaginative exploration among children ages 4 to 11. The kits feature four creative categories, each encouraging inspiration and collaboration in a different way: Grow, Memorable, Playful and Sweet.

Grow – foraging baskets, flower press kits and bird feeder projects are a few examples of the grow category which aims to stimulate exploration and observation of the natural world.

Memorable – from framed family portraits to custom treasure boxes, the creative kits in the memorable category help children form lasting memories while developing personal interests and style.

Playful – the playful category inspires self-expression and improvisation with creative kits including DIY wooden playsets and cute costumes.

Sweet – there are more learning benefits related to baking treats than one might imagine – think of all the math – but the colorful kitchen prep mats, cookie stamps and other creative kits in the sweet category help keep children focused on the fun.

“Now more than ever, parents and caretakers are searching for creative ways to integrate real learning opportunities into their children’s play,” said Megan Featherston, senior vice president, merchandising, for Jo-Ann. “Jennifer Garner has done a fantastic job of making learning an interactive and playful experience with We Made It, a collection so perfectly aligned with the Jo-Ann mission to inspire the creativity in every person.”

May 17, 2015 Comments Off on Why Jennifer Garner Wants You to Wear Sunscreen Articles

You’ve heard that tanning is awful for your skin, and you’ve heard us (and basically everyone else) preach the importance of sun safety. But the fact remains that one in five people will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, and we’re definitely not OK with that stat. So in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness month (i.e., this month), we’re going to dust off our soapbox once more and stand up alongside other safe-sun advocates, like Jennifer Garner.

Garner, a Neutrogena ambassador, has joined the Neutrogena Choose Skin Health initiative, which encourages skin-cancer education and offers free screenings in partnership with the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. “It’s crazy that skin cancer is the most preventable of the cancers, yet there are new cases of it every year, more than [there are of] colon, lung, breast, and prostate cancers combined,” she said at a recent event. “It’s like, Come on people! It’s not sexy, but let’s do this!” Neutrogena will help you find a doctor close to you who will do a free skin-cancer screening. For her part, Garner is diligent about getting herself and her family checked regularly, as well as protecting them on a daily basis. “My children are slathered in sunscreen—they are so pale,” she says. “It’s just a nonnegotiable part of the morning.”

And though being covered in sunscreen used to evoke images of white, sticky residue all over your skin, many of the newer formulas are lightweight and nongreasy. (We bow down to Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen). “The one I use is Neutrogena Sheer Ultra Dry. It just goes away without any greasiness, and you don’t have to worry about it once it’s on,” says Garner.

May 12, 2015 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner Reveals 3 Simple Secrets to Her Flawless Skin Articles

One thing is for sure: Jennifer Garner doesn’t need a lot of makeup to look good. But after years of getting glam for the red carpet, she’s picked up some pretty useful beauty tips.

“I’ve learned so much about makeup,” says the actress. “I used to do these heavy stripes of blush to bring color to my face until one of my favorite makeup artists taught me to apply it with my thumb, not a brush. It goes on so smooth and translucent, especially if you concentrate it on the areas where the sun hits your face.

It’s also the easiest way to get a sun-kissed glow without the guilt of catching actual rays, says Garner, and protecting her skin is one of the other secrets to her youthful complexion. Fittingly, she is now working with Neutrogena on their Choose Skin Health campaign, an initiative that raises awareness about skin cancer and helps people find free skin screenings in their area.

“My kids know they are not getting out of the house without sunscreen,” Garner says of Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3. “No one likes to put it on, but I make it a priority for us. Usually they just close their eyes and let me spray them.” Garner herself, uses Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry Touch SPF.

Skincare aside, the actress has some other wisdom that she hopes to pass down to her little ones. “My mom always taught me to focus on the beauty within people, so if I can teach that to my kids, we will be in good shape!”

May 9, 2015 Comments Off on ‘Nine Lives’ Collars Spring 2016 Date Articles

EuropaCorp’s high-concept comedy Nine Lives, starring Kevin Spacey as a guy who gets trapped in the body of his family’s pussycat, has purrloined an April 29 release date. Jennifer Garner, Christopher Walken, Robbie Amell and Mark Consuelos also star in the Barry Sonnenfeld-directed pic from writers Daniel Antoniazzi and Ben Shiffrin. The House Of Cards heavy plays a workaholic businessman who must figure out how to redeem himself after a terrible accident leaves him in a feline state of body. Nine Lives will scratch and claw that weekend against Fox’s sports biopic Eddie The Eagle — Walken also co-stars in that one — and Paramount’s faith-based drama Same Kind Of Different As Me.
