March 5, 2015 Comments Off on Al Pacino’s rock star tries a new tune in exclusive clip from Danny Collins Articles, Videos

Danny Collins was a huge rock star once, and to some, he still is. Back in the 1970s, he wrote the hit songs that made the whole sing. And he never stopped—quite literally. In Danny Collins, the directorial debut from screenwriter Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love), Danny (Al Pacino) is still performing to huge—but much grayer—crowds, and his newest album in a greatest hits compilation… Volume 3. In truth, he hasn’t written a new song in 30 years.

Enter John Lennon. More precisely, enter an undelivered letter that John Lennon wrote to Danny in 1971 that urged him to “Stay true to your music. Stay true to yourself,” just as the young singer’s fame began to consume him. When Danny discovers it more than 30 years later, it sends him into a tailspin that threatens to derail his tour. But it might be exactly what he needs as an artist and a human being. He turns the tour bus around and heads for New Jersey to meet the grown-up son (Bobby Cannavale) he neglected and to make amends before it’s too late.

In this exclusive scene from the film, which opens in select theaters on March 20, Danny uses his celebrity to arrange a meeting for his son and his wife (Jennifer Garner) at the expensive special-needs school where his grandchild could thrive.

March 4, 2015 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner: My Favorite Role Is ‘Mommy’ Articles

When in need of some life advice, there’s one gal pal that Jennifer Garner can always be sure to rely on: Reese Witherspoon.

“If I run into Reese, she and I have so much to talk about,” Garner, 42, told PEOPLE at the press day for her new film Danny Collins, in which she stars alongside Al Pacino. “We’ll be on the street corner and just be like, ‘What do you do about this, and how did you handle this?’ ”

She continues, “I’m so grateful for that very specific kind of friend.”

A typical juicy conversation that takes place between the two hard-working Hollywood mothers may specifically consist of whether or not a role is worth (temporarily) departing from motherhood.

“I have such a big thing to balance [jobs] against that it has to be something I love so much,” Garner says of feeling “surprised,” but grateful every time that she gets handed a new offer and has to think about calling in the in-laws for some long-term babysitting.

While stationed at home and playing her favorite role as mommy, Garner makes it a point to keep her routine consistent.

“I make sure everyone has notes for their lunch box every day and [figure out] who’s having something special, and deciding who I read extra to [in the] morning,” Garner says of how a morning plays out with her and husband Ben Affleck‘s children, Violet, 9, Seraphina, 5, and Samuel, 3.

And, coming up on 10 years of marriage, being a wife is something that she sure excels in, as well.

“I’m going straight to New York from here, and then I’m going to visit Ben [on set in Atlanta to] make sure he’s good,” Garner says about her special trip to see Affleck, 42, while filming his new role in The Accountant.

She adds, “It’s just what you do [as a mom].”

From an actress to a mother and a room mom to a Girl Scout troop leader, there’s not much that Garner hasn’t tried.

“I’ve been the room mom for pre-school and kindergarten this year, and I’m the Girl Scout troop leader for third grade,” Garner shares. “When I’m home, I dive in, [and] I try to Betty Crocker it up as much as I can.”

And when the going gets tough, the actress gets going. “It just happened the other day where I was like, ‘I think I’m ready to be on set and talk to grownups,’ ” Garner jokes. “Send Batman in.”

March 2, 2015 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner: “It’s My Turn” to Work After Supporting Ben Affleck’s Career Articles

Back at it. After slowing down to focus on raising her three children, Jennifer Garner is prioritizing her career once more.

The Golden Globe-winning actress, 42, dished to reporters at a Beverly Hills event promoting her new movie Danny Collins about balancing her job with her family, and said her attention is back on her acting projects. Garner and husband Ben Affleck welcomed their third child, son Samuel, in 2012, following daughters Violet, 9, and Seraphina, 6.

“I’ve been home for a long time,” Garner spilled. “It’s my turn and I’m going to go to work this spring. I think I’ll work the spring and summer, maybe the fall too, as long as some of it’s at home. I don’t think my deals are done yet so I can’t say, but yeah, I’m about to go to work.”

Garner, who earned critical acclaim for her starring role in the early 2000s series Alias, has staggered her filming schedule in recent years to allow more time for parenting. She appeared in just one movie in 2013, acting in the Oscar-winning Dallas Buyers Club alongside Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto. This past year, she made appearances in Draft Day, Men, Women & Children, and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

“I really choose by what I like,” Garner said at the Danny Collins event on Sunday, March 1. “I thought Alexander was a super smart script. Just [costar] Steve [Carell] alone would have been enough, gosh I love working with that guy, he’s just the best.”

“I have had the best luck with costars, I’m just saying. And I’ve only married a couple of them,” Garner continued, joking about Affleck, whom she met on the set of the movie Pearl Harbor, and first husband Scott Foley, whom she started dating after working together on the classic series Felicity. “But yeah that was fun for me. My kids really got a lot of juice out of the fact that I was in that movie. I heard about a little kid saying to their mom the other day at school. The mom said something about Ben and the little kid said no Sera’s mom is a movie star, and her dad just comes along. I was like that’s awesome, because she saw Alexander.”

While Seraphina’s classmate may not have had his attention on Affleck, 42, Garner admitted that she is well aware of just how many people do have their eyes on her husband’s career, which has been particularly busy and successful over the past several years.

“Ben is super busy and I’m super happy for him,” the Valentine’s Day star said. “I chose to stay home this year and just said, ‘Go for it babe. Do it all. Do Gone Girl, do Batman, do The Accountant. Do everything.’ I want that for him and I’m happy for him. And he says the same to me. Except that he’s really busy. But he understands that when I really have to do it, we figure it out.”

“You’d be amazed how we figure it out,” she added. “I’ve never been away for more than I think four days. Maybe once I was gone for my kids for five days… I sit down at the beginning of the movie and say to the people making the schedule, ‘Let’s look at this.’ Then I figure out where I’m going to take the kid and when I can get home.”
