May 7, 2015 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner Is ‘Surrounded by Attitude’ at Home Articles

People.com spoke with Jennifer at the recent Huggies Snug & Dry event about her kids and the work Huggies is doing to help mom’s out there!

As most parents know, kids can be a tough crowd.

“I’m surrounded by attitude,” Jennifer Garner, mom to Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3, with husband Ben Affleck, jokes to PEOPLE at the Huggies Snug & Dry event.

“With the eye-rolling and the drama and the attitude. I just tell them, ‘I didn’t try to order kids with sass. How did I get all these sassy kids?’ ”

Playfulness aside, Garner, 43 — an ambassador for Save the Children — is championing aid for a very real and very serious epidemic in America. “One in three moms struggle to get diapers for their kids,” she explains.

“And studies are showing that it’s not some huge crisis that causes the stressors [for moms]. It’s the pileup of little things. It’s like revving your car engine at full speed while sitting still. Eventually it starts to run out.”

Huggies, whose Snug & Dry diapers are now a better value, donated 2 million diapers — 1.5 million to Baby2Baby, a charity that donates clothes and goods to low-income families, and 500,000 to Save the Children.

Says Garner: “Huggies and Baby2Baby just lift this stressor off moms’ plates and it makes them able to add another meal to the table or to think about something else or provide for their families in another way.”

For Garner, providing for her older girls often means helping out with homework sessions. “My strengths are projects,” says the actress. “I’m the consistent quiet bugger. I bug and I make sure it gets done.”

And so far so good. “[Violet] has needed company more than she’s needed help,” Garner explains. “When she needs help, I’m going to say, ‘Go find Dad!’

May 7, 2015 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner Reveals Her Secret To Healthy Skin Articles

May has ushered in some consistently summer-y weather (finally!)—and since it also happens to be Skin Cancer Awareness month, now is the perfect time for a refresher course on safeguarding skin from the sun. Skin cancer affects 1 in 5 Americans, and there are more new cases every year than breast, prostate, and lung cancer combined.

We sat down with Jennifer Garner whose glowing complexion is a true testament to diligent sun protection. As a spokesmodel for Neutrogena’s Choose Skin Health Skin Care initiative, which promotes skin cancer education and offers free screenings in partnership with the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Garner schooled us on self-screening, her trick to a sunless glow, husband Ben Affleck’s own skincare habits, and her “scare ’em” parenting tactics:

How do you protect your skin from the sun?

I’m just boring about it. There’s rarely a big hat. I think all those things are great but I’m boring in that I just use sunscreen every day. I don’t mess around. I put it on first thing. I have it on now and I’m sitting inside.

May 4, 2015 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner Talks Teaching Her Kids About Skin Cancer Articles

Jennifer talks to People.com about how she has been teaching her three kids about skin cancer and the families mania over all things Batman!

Jennifer Garner kicked butt as Elektra, and Ben Affleck played Daredevil before donning the Batsuit, so it’s no surprise their three children are super into superheroes.

“Oh, there is going to be Batman mania at our house next year,” Garner tells PEOPLE of Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3, getting ready to watch their dad save Gotham. “But right now, it can go from Batman, to Iron Man, to Spider-Man, to any of them.”

“And just the general ninja,” she adds, laughing. “I have a ninja at my house right now.”

Garner, 43, is using her power as a public figure to help save lives outside of comic books, joining Neutrogena’s Choose Skin Health campaign.

“Skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers,” Garner says, “and meanwhile there are more cases of skin cancer diagnosed every year than breast, colon and lung cancers combined.”

She continues, “Everybody’s been touched by cancer. Luckily for me, it hasn’t hit my immediate family yet, but if you look at the statistics, it’s something that is going to touch all of us,” she continues. “It’s within our reach to find a cure, it’s within our reach to find better and more efficient treatments that do less to hurt the body. It’s all happening, but we have to make sure these brilliant doctors are supported and funded.”

In honor of “Melanoma Monday,” Neutrogena is teaming up with Target to provide free skin cancer screenings across the country.

And from May to July, for every SPF product purchased, the cosmetics company donates one to a family in need.

“We all have to stop once a year and take a good look at our bodies, go to our dermatologist and get our skin screened for any early detection, and to stock up on sunscreen for the summer coming up,” Garner says.

The actress protects her complexion with Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF and stocks up on stick and spray lotions for her little ones.

And though “no kid likes to wear sunscreen,” she says she’s taught her daughters and son why it’s so important.

“They understand what skin cancer is,” she explains, “and what I’m doing now will prevent them from having to deal with it, hopefully, later in life. But mostly, they just endure me slathering it on them.”

April 22, 2015 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner Grows Her Own Food: “I’m a Geek” Articles

Jennifer Garner told me last night that she tries to keep her family healthy by growing their own food.

While Garner and her hubby, Ben Affleck, don’t have a full-fledged farm, Garner said, “We talk about our food. We grow food. We talk about what goes into it and how hard it is. They plant it, they water it. We take pictures next to it.”

She added with a laugh, “I’m a geek.”

I caught up with the Danny Collins star at Cliff’s Edge restaurant in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake neighborhood during an event for Just Label It, an organization fighting for food companies to label their products containing GMOs.

(The concern is that genetically modified crops are engineered to be herbicide resistant, which means farmers use more herbicides to kill off weeds. And then when the weeds become resistant, more toxic—and some scientist believe cancer-causing—herbicides are dumped onto the crops.)

It was Gisele Bundchen first told Garner about Just Label It.

“My friend Gisele and I are fed up with being kept in the dark about GMO and non-GMO labeling,” Garner said. “I got involved because she said, ‘Do you know what’s happening?’ She’s a firecracker. She said, ‘You have to educate yourself.'”
