September 19, 2014 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner: Why I’m Not on Twitter or Instagram Articles

Her husband, Ben Affleck, has a Twitter account, but don’t look for Jennifer Garner to be Tweeting any time soon.

“I have an official Facebook page. I’m not on Twitter, Instagram,” she tells PEOPLE.

“I have a couple of reasons,” says the star of Men, Women & Children, who posed with costar Kaitlyn Dever for PEOPLE’s behind-the-scenes portfolio at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“One, I don’t want any more guilt coming from my phone or computer. I have the hardest time answering emails, anyway, so the last thing I want to feel is indebted to my phone or computer. So it’s time.”

“And the other is, what would I Instagram that people would want to see. There is nothing I would put out that people would want to see. It’s probably best to stay away. They don’t want to see me and my mom friends after kindergarten drop-off.”

In Men, Women & Children – a movie about how the Internet affects people’s love lives – Garner and Dever play mother and daughter. “It was so easy,” says Dever. “I feel like we’re owed one more [film],” adds Garner.

In the latest trailer for Jason Reitman’s drama, Garner is shown trying to teach fellow parents Dean Norris and Judy Greer about how to keep their children safe from too much tech use. “Don’t allow guilt to prevent you from doing what’s right,” she says, later telling her own onscreen daughter, “You don’t seem to understand how dangerous it is out there,” after deleting her text messages.

Why is she so paranoid and overprotective? Aside from all its spillover consequences that the film attempts to confront — including anorexia, infidelity and fame hunting — she’s worried about how today’s kids are really feeling about authentic human connections. After all, Ansel Elgort is seen telling a therapist, “I think if I disappear tomorrow, the universe wouldn’t really notice.”

The Paramount ensemble film also stars Adam Sandler, Emma Thompson, Timothee Chalamet, Olivia Crocicchia and Kaitlyn Dever and follows a group of high school teens and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the Internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image and their love lives.

Men, Women & Children will get a limited release Oct. 3 before expanding Oct. 17.

September 13, 2014 Comments Off on Jennifer Discusses Her Marriage to Ben Affleck and Reveals Why She’s Their Kids’ “Only Hope” Articles

How does Jennifer Garner do it?

This year alone, the actress starred in the movies Draft Day, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and Men, Women & Children (the latter two are in theaters this fall). Her 42-year-old husband Ben Affleck, meanwhile, spent the better part of 2014 shooting Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in the Detroit area. The actor is also about to begin promotional duties for Gone Girl, adapted from Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel. How do the spouses of nine years find the time for each other, let alone their kids, Violet, 8, Seraphina, 5, and Samuel, 2?

“When we had our first, we had only been together a year. We were babies. It happened so fast, I hardly even remember what we were like before the kids got here,” Garner, 42, recalls in InStyle’s October 2014 issue. “Now we’re just starting to go away for a night here and there.”

“You go through phases,” she continues. “You can’t expect to be courted all the time, and I don’t want to court him right now—I don’t have the energy! But we’re definitely in a very mindful place where we’re making an effort to be together, do things at the same time, and be loving.”

Garner filmed most of this year’s movies in 2013, meaning she was able to spend more time at home with the kids while Affleck was on location as the Caped Crusader. “I keep things rolling and foster his connection to the kids. He’ll always make time for them—he screwed up a week of production to take our daughter to her first day of kindergarten—but there’s only so much, practically speaking, that he can do,” she says of the downsides that come with being an actor. “I make sure that I am facilitating the most meaning for each kid out of whatever time he has.”

To make life easier, the Daredevil co-stars play to their strengths.

So, who plays bad cop and who plays good cop in the Affleck-Garner household? “For better or worse, I tend to be the one who says, ‘This is what needs to happen.’ I know who wants what lunch, and I’ve done all the school paperwork and filled out the emergency cards. Ben doesn’t even know that stuff exists. He is in charge of laughter. No matter how much I tickle them or toss them or chase them around, it’s not the same. If I’m the slow, steady drumbeat, he’s the jazz,” she says. Still, she’s got him beat when it comes movie roles. “My kids are always saying, ‘Mom, you’re our only hope. Dad does all these grown-up movies,” Garner tells the magazine. “We can’t see Argo or Gone Girl. Batman looks too scary. You have to do things we can see!'”

Garner may be a movie star, but she’s a mom and wife first. “I’m still wiping a bottom, making three meals a day, dealing with sass—and also trying to work. I don’t always do it all well. At bedtime last night my middle child said, ‘I feel like you never have time to play with me.’ I thought, ‘My mom never played with me. I’m trying!'” she tells InStyle. “But you know what? She’s right. So my goal is to play dolls with her all afternoon. I guess I would say for this stage of my life, I’m in the thick of it.”

September 13, 2014 Comments Off on Inside the October InStyle: Jennifer Garner’s Confessions of a Domestic Goddess Articles

In the October issue of InStyle, on newsstands and available for digital download September 19, writer Laurie Sandell got an unprecedented peek into cover girl Jennifer Garner’s life with husband Ben Affleck and their three kids. The following is an excerpt of that insider access.

At 5:45 a.m., while most of Los Angeles still sleeps, Jennifer Garner is bustling around her open kitchen, brewing a much-needed cup of coffee. She and her husband, actor-director and soon-to-be Dark Knight Ben Affleck, share the sprawling ranch house with their kids (Violet, 8, Seraphina, 5, and Samuel, 2). A single glance around the space and you immediately understand what’s No. 1 on their list. Family photos adorn almost every surface, a pint-size backpack lies on a sofa, and the sliding glass doors that lead to the outdoor deck are covered with drawings. “Sorry things are such a mess,” Garner says, gesturing to the many art projects in progress. This is a family home.

Her trainer of more than a dozen years, Valerie Waters, leans against a kitchen counter, waiting to take her famous client (and me) through her daily workout. Clad in a faded blue sweatshirt over a gray tank top and blue leggings, Garner follows Waters out to the long, winding driveway flanked by tall trees—and more than a few tricycles. There, under the dark predawn sky, the actress warms up with a brisk walk, touching the gate that protects her hive, then returns to take a sip of coffee.

The workout proper takes place in her gym, housed in a building across the courtyard. While Garner and I are stretching inside, a figure appears in the doorway: It’s Affleck, tall and ruggedly handsome with morning stubble, wearing a gray hoodie and black nylon gym shorts, a towel slung over his shoulder. “Hey guys, can I crash your workout?” he asks before climbing onto the elliptical machine.

Garner turns to me and jokes, “How bummed are you that you thought you were just working out with me, and now you have to exercise in front of Ben Affleck?”

September 12, 2014 Comments Off on Jennifer on the Cover of the October InStyle Magazines

Come October, the style set will be recovering from September’s whirlwind of trend-spotting for spring 2015 at runway shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. But inside the October InStyle, on newsstands and available for digital download Sept. 19, we’re telling you what to wear right now, starting with some of our favorite fall trends styled on cover girl Jennifer Garner.

The actress, up next in Disney’s adaptation of the children’s book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (in theaters Oct. 10), arrived at the shoot at a cliff-top ranch overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Carmel, Calif., wearing a Brunello Cucinelli cardigan and R13 jeans, but was soon wrapped up in some of our favorite looks for fall. On the cover, she wears layers of rich fabrics with a poncho, dress, and scarf by Burberry Prorsum (complimented by jewelry by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. and Van Cleef & Arpels), while inside the issue, the actress transforms into an intrepid outdoors woman, donning cozy textures by Céline, Michael Kors, Stella McCartney, and more. Still, “I’m too happy to be a moody nomad all the time,” the 42-year-old told us, and between takes dropped character to chat about her three kids and a recent vacation the family—which also includes husband of nine years Ben Affleck—took with friends Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen.

Yet even ensconced in all that glamour, Garner remained true to most-loved role: mom. “You can tell Jennifer is a mother,” hairstylist Ben Skervin says. “She kept reminding me to be careful when we were working near the edge of a cliff!”

For more from Garner on balancing life with Ben, working out like a demon, and her “mom grunge” style, pick up the October issue of InStyle, on newsstands and available for digital download Friday, Sept. 19.
