April 3, 2014 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner Teaches Us How To Be A Woman In A Man’s World Articles

When we think of Jennifer Garner, only one word comes to mind: normal. And, in the hectic world of Hollywood, we can’t think of a higher compliment. Despite the fact that she and her hubby have both recently starred in Oscar-winning films and have boatloads of money and fame between them, she still manages to take her children to and from school every day, sans nanny.

So, it’s no surprise that Garner is an endless source of wisdom on how to be an awesomely put-together woman. The actress is in the midst of a press tour for her new flick Draft Day (in theaters April 11) and stopped by the Four Seasons in L.A. to give some of us lucky reporters some expert advice. In the movie, Garner plays a salary cap executive for the Cleveland Browns, working under the general manager played by Kevin Costner. A financially minded sports nut may seem like a bit of a departure for Jen, but she was way more comfortable taking on the world of professional athletics than you might think.

“People ask, ‘What’s it like playing a woman in a man’s world?'” She said at the Draft Day press conference. “But, on any movie set there is one of you for every 10 men around you. Usually it’s the director, the key grip, the camera operator, the producers…you’re in a locker room, basically. So, I’m very comfortable in a room full of men.”

April 2, 2014 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner Learned to Love Baseball After Dating Ben Affleck Articles

Jennifer Garner loved football growing up, but she didn’t appreciate baseball until she met husband Ben Affleck.

“We’re really a baseball house,” she told PEOPLE during a press event in Los Angeles to promote her new film, Draft Day. “When I was first dating Ben, I’d never watched baseball. I didn’t really care, I may say, about baseball.”

“But if you watch three or four games in a row, you learn just enough to hook you in. And it’s the same as a soap opera, right? If you watch three or four, you get just enough of a storyline to grab you, and that’s why people are so into them.”

“Now, I’m totally addicted to baseball. But believe me, when the playoffs happen, it’s all about Tom Brady, all the time,” she says.

Starring alongside Kevin Costner in Draft Day, which tells the story of the Cleveland Browns, the film allowed Garner, 41, to reconnect with her love of football.

“I grew up in West Virginia which is very much how you picture Texas, where Friday Night Lights [takes place]. Every Friday night, we’re at the game,” she says.

“I was at every single game because I was in the marching band. And then, my senior year, I left the marching band – which was a scandal at the time – and I was the water girl for the team. So I traveled with them. I didn’t miss a game, and I loved it.”

But even Garner’s days as a football fan have changed since having a family.

“Now that I have kids, my husband will have the Patriots on, and I see what’s happening,” she says. “But I’m running around making sure that he can sit and watch calmly is really what’s happening!”

April 1, 2014 Comments Off on Jennifer Garner Talks No Kids Policy, Football, Ben’s Batsuit Articles, Interview

Last August, Jennifer Garner and Halle Berry testified in front of the Assembly Judiciary Committee in support of a bill that sought to impose harsher fines on paparazzi who stalk the children of celebrities.

In her testimony, Garner described the 15 men with cameras who camp outside her house everyday, the mentally ill stalkers who sometimes try to blend in with them, and the impact that all this stalking has had on her kids. Her testimony was persuasive, and California governor Jerry Brown quickly signed the bill into law.

Although the law only came into effect in January, Garner says that she’s already noticing a difference. “It’s just totally changing our lives,” she told ET Canada’s Sangita Patel. “It got to where it just wasn’t safe for our kids. We had to stand up and say something, just as parents.”

Additional support from Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, who threatened to boycott publications that print unsolicited photos of celebrities’ children, helped turn the tide, and now Garner says that the paparazzi are no longer the sharks that they were a year ago.

“So are they still around? Yeah, but do I feel the threat the way that I used to? No, and with people like ET Canada – our hope is maybe our kids won’t be so recognizable in a few years which would be so great for them.”

(Even before Garner, Berry, Bell, and Shepard launched their campaigns, ET Canada had a “no unsolicited photos of celebrity children” policy in place. “It really does make a big difference and we can’t thank you enough,” Garner says).

Now that the paparazzi have backed off, Garner’s children are free to play outside more. One of the games they like to play also happens to be the subject of Garner’s most recent film: football. “It’s more of a family event to go outside and play, but I will say – I had two daughters first and then a little boy, and the little boy just turned two and can already sit down and watch a full game. He’s just mesmerized by it.”

In Draft Day, Garner plays an NFL salary cap manager. Apart from Ellen Burstyn, who has a small supporting role, Garner is the only woman in the main cast. According to Garner, however, the lack of women on the set was hardly noticeable; every movie that she’s worked on has been a little boys club to some extent. “The reality is every set is testosterone filled. I wish that we had more “buddy” films populated by women.”

One movie that could potentially fit that bill is Batman vs. Superman, which will feature Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. It will also star Ben Affleck, Garner’s husband, in one of the title roles. Details regarding the movie are being kept tightly under wraps, but Garner did let us know that she has seen her husband’s costume, and that she’s impressed. “I have seen the Batman suit. You are not going to be disappointed.”
