Jennifer Garner phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to chat about her latest movie Dallas Buyers Club and her husband playing Batman.
Before she got into starring alongside Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto in the potential Oscar contender, the actress, who even has a dog named Martha Stewart, admitted she gets in full Martha mode when it comes to the holidays, especially Thanksgiving.
“It’s my favorite day of the year,” Jennifer insists. “I have all my cookbooks open. All my favorite flags from the years before and my Grandma’s sweet potato pudding with the marshmallows on top.”
Speaking of food, Jennifer was able to indulge while portraying Dr. Eve Saks, while Matthew and Jared had to lose weight to play AIDS patients in Dallas Buyers Club.
“I was binge eating quietly in my trailer,” the mom of three laughs. “It was so intense being around them. Matthew lost the weight really slowly over time and did it in a really thoughtful way and Jared just stopped eating when he got the job, so by the end of the movie it just always looked like he was going to fall over. When he was going down the steps to the makeup trailer … I would say to someone, ‘Somebody stand in front of him because eventually he’s going to fall over.’”
On top of being hard on the guys’ bodies, Jennifer adds that overall, making the movie was difficult.
“It was a really hard movie to shoot. We shot it in 25 days which is insane … there was no time to chat or catch up … and it was kind of good that way because I just wanted it to be done, so those guys could eat … but they gave these incredible beautiful performances.”
Another transformation Jennifer’s been around is that of her own husband Ben Affleck.
The Oscar winner is set to play Batman and has been bulking up ever since landing the gig. “It’s pretty crazy,” she says. “It’s been an hour-and-half, two hours a day before going to work every single day for months. He doesn’t take anything lightly. He’s pretty huge! … We have a 20-month-old little guy and he’s like, ‘My dad is so strong!’”
Jennifer went on to say she wished her husband could’ve been a part of Batkid, the 5-year-old boy who got to “save” Gotham (San Francisco) for a day as part of the Make a Wish Foundation.
“I wish we’d been part of it somehow. We just read it on the news like everybody else, but it was great.”
